American Butter Stamp. What appears to be a “shelf” at the top of the print was, in fact, a separator. The butter was in a tub and the shelf enabled the print to imprint designs on all of the butter in the tub. Frequently, the original shelf is removed and one sees the holes where the screws held it on. It is much harder to find one with the shelf still attached.
